I had the pleasure of exploring the castle and the grounds on my trip to the UK last October. It was beautifullll. One of my favourite shows was the Tudors, so I was pleasantly surprised when my friend planned this excursion for me. The rooms, the halls, the Italian garden... peacefulll & magical.

Poor Anne of Cleves had a terrifying time when Henry initially rejected her, but sensibly accepted the divorce and honorable settlement. Apparently, she had a very happy life afterward, it’s a shame she didn’t live longer. But, the greedy counselors around Henry’s son Edward were already taking away parts of her settlement. I always thought Katherine of Aragon could have accepted a similar settlement and negotiated living an honored, celibate but not cloistered, life. It was very accepted for a woman to take vows not to remarry, but to stay in the secular world, she didn’t have to go into a convent. The Catholic religion she loved so much might have survived in England and her daughter Mary wouldn’t have been bastardized. (Because the marriage was made in good faith with papal dispensations, this wouldn’t have been done). She well knew that every king needed a son to succeed him, especially one from a dynasty without a blood claim like Henry’s, and it would have saved a lot of trouble. Of course, the kingdom would likely have become Protestant anyway, Henry just wanted the assets of the Catholic Church, and on-demand divorces for himself.

One can see the electric picture lights in the gallery in one clip showing it full of Tudor-costumed actors. Did/could they “scrub them out” of the final film version?

Look at those stone storage niches under the window in the great hall! I love old houses. It always surprises me how few bedchambers they had. I visited a huge Victorian-era mansion here in California as a child and it only had three very large bedrooms, too. The guide said they would just put many beds in each room. The best bedroom was for the host or most important couple, then all the other females slept in one room and the males in the other (except for servants). This is so unlike today’s idea of luxury living, where every family member or guest (single or couple) has their own bedroom with walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom.

Hi there. I have visited beautiful Hever many times over the years yet never have a bought from the shop, so I am trying to buy on line. PLEASE HELP! I loved this walk. My son and I were booked to visit Hever Castle when we found this video. It made our visit all the more special. I'm not sure how the others got lost in the sheep field. There was a path and gate at the end. (It is possible to bypass the field and join the join the main path bit lower down the road as an alternative). We felt completely safe. The road was more busy than we expected as well, but if you follow the rule of walking against the traffic and make yourself visible (don't jump into the hedge) you will be ok.

Who was the other notable woman who owned a copy of that book? They said they would discuss it in another video but I don’t see another one with Kate McCaffrey.

And why were her personal and religious books commodities? Historians just attribute "value" to something like that word has inherent meaning we should all understand. Because it makes money alluring tourists? Because some follow doctrine therein? Information that reshapes history in a context non conducive to the plans of those who govern? Or because it has a mass of carbon, oxygen, ink pigments that deconstructed materially add up to... Ohh let's go fiscally speaking 33 money tokins?

My friend and I did this walk and it was one of the highlights of our trip to the UK. I will say - we did get lost in the sheep field, as someone else mentioned. It's confusing there. Also, there was a rowdy car of men who drove by yelling at us when we came out at the road so I second what another commenter said about not walking alone. However, all of that aside, if your'e with a friend and have a little extra time, and know that the sheep field may be confusing (and be prepared), it's wonderful. I actually enjoyed being in the sheep field for a while!

I visited Hever Castle and the gardens as a foreign exchange student (from USA) when I was 13 years old. While it was few decades ago, the grounds and residence were among the most rememberable experiences during my time in England; I recall being amazed by the moat. Despite other trips to the UK, I've not been back to Hever but after watching this aerial video Hever is at the top of the list for my next visit. Thanks for this superb video.

I went there when I was a boy (I'm 68 now) but have always remembered it. I'm hoping to get the train down in August sometime to revisit the castle and grounds.

I go to Hever Castle, every summer for the jousting. I have been going for the past 6 years. if you buy a garden only ticket or a castle and garden ticket, both include entry to the jousting. They have spectator platforms, where you can sit and watch for £2.00 a sit. Well worth it.

A portcullis is a vertically heavy-closing gate.
